{*~Wedding Quilt~*}

The McPorkchop Wedding Quilt is DONE!

I finished the top in October but couldn’t figure out how to quilt it. It’s a monster…87 x 87. I kept putting it off and now my pile of “put offs” is taller than me, so I figured I’d bite the bullet and get it long armed.

I went with what I’d call an “economy” quilter. She does nice & neat work…nothing fancy or too artsy…and the price was very budget friendly…it’s an all over pantograph design of maple leaves and stars…very Porkchop & I. I’m bringing 3 more tops to her this week to just get *done*. Quilting is my *favorite* part but right now…there are things I’d rather be working on and these tops just aren’t inspiring me anymore.

The fabrics were ones I’d been collecting…very Porkchop & I. He’s an outdoorsman and biologist, I’m a more whimsical and art-y. It’s a mix of Erin Michaels Lush & Uptown, some Cake Rock Beach, a little Deer Valley, Flea Market Fancy and some Japanese prints. The brown is Kona Espresso and the aqua is a Moda Bella solid who’s name I can’t seem to find. The backing is Erin McMorris Wildwood.

I used a wool batting…if you were to see this quilt in real life, it’s almost more like a comforter than a quilt…very very very lofty and puffy. And I *love* that. What I don’t love is the smell of the quilt after it was washed. It has *very* slight wet wool smell to it now. It’s faded a lot from yesterday and unless I stick my nose directly onto the quilt and basically huff it, I can’t smell it. But when I first pulled it out of the dryer..BLECH! Veryyyy strong smell. It’s also REALLY warm and SUPER light….which I love! I’d probably use wool again, I know my Sparkling Cider is going to have silk batting, so it’ll be interesting to compare the two!

So there it is! The finished wedding quilt!!!

    wow wow wow!!! amaaaaazing! i love how, in the top picture, the deer almost look 3-D-ish. the way you chose other fabric around them gives them depth! :) that surely was a monster sized quilt and i probably would’ve given in to having a someone with a long arm quilt it for me as well. how wonderful you found someone “economical!” of course, i wouldn’t mind having my own long arm!!! ha ha ha!

    thanks so much for sharing! very, very, very nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    It’s absolutely gorgeous Amanda! Congrats :)
    … I started cutting squares for a small lap quilt last week with our abigail*ryan fabric in coral ginkgo which I think I am going to pare with plain linen. Super simple is the plan as it’s our first, although R’s grandma is a great quilter! R is going to start sewing this week I think… keep your fingers crossed for us!!!

    Congrats again – I’m sure Porkchop will be over the moon :) :)

    Beautiful quilt! It looks fab on your bed too. I just love all the combos of those fabrics and with that chocolate sashing. I am thinking about biting my own bullet soon and calling up a long armer, something I really don’t want to do but my spiderweb quilt is going to be 90×90 and I don’t think I can handle it myself. I hope I can find one up here who can do as great a job as yours did for you!

    Amanda, it came out SO amazing. Colors=delicious. Love how it almost looks like peeking out little windows at the deer. You really did an AMAZING job…I want to touch it! (Not so much huff it :)…if you ever come up north, I’d LOVE to see it in person and feel the wool batting…I haven’t decided how to quilt my Sparkling Cider yet but I bet silk batting lends a really nice feel to it! I’ve only used cotton and once a bamboo bat…so many options out there!!

    Your quilt is beautiful! I just acquired some lush deer print to make my son a quilt and I was thinking of a pattern like this where the deer are showcase if you will. Did you use a pattern or sort of a random sqaure block? I really like all the prints you used as well! Just so pretty!

    Wow, this quilt is stunning! What a great way to showcase those feature fabrics. I love the colors you put together too. I bet that wool batting makes this so snuggly and cozy!
